The pursuit of continued education is a key component to developing a personal protection plan. Learning a new skill can be both exciting and daunting, and some of the skills we learn aren't as simple as riding a bike once they are learned. Taking the time to schedule periodic training to refresh, and improve your skills can be the difference in dedication that makes you stand out above others with the same or similar skills.
When it comes to firearm ownership, it can be easy to think that, because a class was taken and a firearm was bought, there are no further steps needed. However, taking the necessary time to train with your firearm, and perform defensive drills is a crucial component of your personal protection and the protection of others. Building skills that will bolster your confidence, and cultivate an environment of continued success and know-how, can lead to a sort of "second-nature" response in emergency situations that can prevent costly mistakes and ensure appropriate action.
Most of us have heard the phrase "Knowledge is power", and it is a phrase that rings true in nearly every subject matter. The more you know, the better informed your decisions can be. There are many ways to pursue continued education that don't have to involve a dry or boring lecture. Joining the shooting sports is a great example of getting involved in a fun and exciting way, as well as a way to stay sharp on your firearm skills and surround yourself with like minded individuals that are out to have fun and increase there knowledge and experience.
Check your local listings for matches near you, or hands-on classes you can attend. Resources are available all over for marksmanship training, firearm cleaning workshops, first time shooter events, and many more. Take advantage of the knowledge of those around you, and pursue the power of knowledge for yourself.
