(GSBP-003) It Takes A Village!

Updated: Mar 18, 2024

Regardless of the "it", there is usually a community that can be found surrounding an idea. Much like Apple's trademarked phrase "There's an app for that.", whatever your passion or interests may be, there's a community for that.

Tapping into a community can provide you with a wealth of knowledge and resources on any number of subjects. There are clubs for various things and support groups. There are groups among groups, and even sub-groups within groups.

Something held in common, amongst even the most contrasting communities, is that each of these cultures, groups, or whatever you prefer to call them, have the ability to provide support, and quality insight for all participating members.

What's the secret to tapping into this abundance? Getting involved. With regard to the firearm lifestyle, there are many ways to get involved; joining a gun club, subscribing to a blog, podcasts, or magazine, and even reading books on the various topics within the firearm lifestyle's community. There are so many avenues for connecting with a specific community that there is really no excuse to be isolated and/or under-informed.

Joining like-minded individuals in conversation through forums, or classes, and through getting involved in the shooting sports, can be an invaluable method of developing personally in a group setting.

Whether it be obtaining improved firearm skills, like marksmanship, or tips and tricks on firearm maintenance, or even staying up to date on legislation that affects your firearm ownership lifestyle, being connected to the firearm community can provide you with a wealth of knowledge and experience that I believe you will find to be priceless.

An African proverb states '"it takes a village to raise a child." according to Wikipedia, "...that means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment."

Every community has children, though not always in the literal sense. You could be a first time firearm owner, a newbie to shooting sports, a new firearms instructor, and the list goes on. The point I am making is that it will always take a village to fill the gaps in your experience and knowledge. Allow those gaps to be filled. Get connected. And help the children of your communities to develop and grow along with you.

Remember, it takes a village!
